During a recent overnight flight connection through the Montreal International Airport, I was able to stay and experience the Marriott In-terminal hotel. It’s located conveniently right beside the U.S. departures area of the airport making it an ideal location to stay overnight before an early morning flight.
Being a Marriott hotel, it’s possible to redeem Marriott Bonvoy points for a stay at this Montreal airport hotel. The number of points required for a stay will vary as Marriott announced dynamic pricing starting on March, 29 2022. Previously, this hotel used to be category 5 hotel which required between 30,000 and 40,000 Bonvoy points per night.
Although, I didn’t use my Bonvoy points nor pay cash for my stay. Instead, I used my annual free night certificate courtesy of my Mariott Bonvoy American Express card. This credit card offers a yearly free night award at any Marriott hotel with a rate up to 35,000 points. Even though there’s an annual fee of $120 for the card, I definitely saved money on this stay as prices for this hotel were up to $250 per night.
Also there’s currently a great offer on the Marriott Bonvoy Amex card where you can earn a generous 65,000 Bonvoy points & $100 statement credit after spending $1,500 in the first 3 months. Hurry, this offer is only valid until May 10, 2022.
Arrival and lobby
After disembarking from my flight, I made my way to the U.S. departures area in the Montreal airport. At the end of the hallway, there’s a sign for the Marriott hotel.
I then took two sets of escalators to reach the hotel lobby on the 4th floor but there was also an elevator available.
Upon walking inside the lobby of the hotel, there was a restaurant to the left, seating on the right and the check in counters straight ahead.
There was no lineup this evening, so I was able to speak with the front desk clerk right away. He thanked me for being a Bonvoy Titanium Elite member and gave me a bottle of water.
Next, he offered me the choice of either a room with a tarmac view or else an upgrade to a corner suite. Both options were tempting but I opted for the suite. He agreed with my choice and then handed me my keycard and I took the elevator up to my room.
Hotel room
Afterwards, I proceeded to room 642 on the 6th floor. It’s a corner suite room and so, it was definitely quite spacious! Plus, there was a nice king size bed awaiting me!
On either side of the bed were small reading lamps. Plus, there was an alarm clock and multiple electrical & USB plugs to charge your devices.
Next to the bed was the closet with an ironing board, iron, an extra pillow and also a bath robe.
To round off the bedroom area, there was a TV in front of the bed so you could easily watch TV in bed 😉
On the other side of the bedroom wall, was the living area and work desk. There were multiple lamps, 2 chairs and an additional TV!
On the other side of the living area was the couch and the thermostat. Looking out the windows from this corner of the room, it was also possible to view some airplanes waiting at their gates. But for the most part, the view from the room was uninspiring as it overlooks a road & parking lot.
Near the entrance to the suite, there was a small illy coffee maker with coffee pods and some tea bags. A good way to start the day for those that drink coffee 😉
Plus, just underneath the coffee maker, there was a small cabinet with the mini-fridge!
Bathroom
The suite bathroom was large and featured double sinks and mirrors.
Also, the hotel provided some cotton swabs and amenities from thisworks including soap & body lotion.
Other toiletries like shampoo, conditioner and body gel were all attached to the wall inside the shower.
Hotel restaurant & facilities
After dropping off my bags in my room, I then explored some of the hotel’s facilities.
The hotel has a restaurant called Le Bijou located next to the front desk. I didn’t dine at the restaurant but there were some people dining even with capacity limits in effect due to Covid-19 health restrictions.
Also, located near the front desk is the hotel’s business centre with has a fax machine, photocopier and a couple of computers. The front desk provides access codes valid for 30 mins to use these computers so you can check your emails, surf the web or connect to social media.
Afterwards, I went to look at the hotel’s other facilities although most of these were closed due to provincial Covid-19 pandemic health restrictions.
On the 8th floor, there’s a small swimming pool which is open from 6 am to 11 pm daily.
Down the hall from the pool, there was the fitness room (open 24 hours) with what seemed like a good selection of exercise machines including treadmills and stationery bikes. Although, I couldn’t enter the fitness room due to Covid-19 health regulations.
Also on the 8th floor, there’s a washing machine and dryer if you need to do some laundry.
Executive lounge
The Montreal Airport Marriott In-Terminal Hotel also has an Executive Lounge on the 9th floor where breakfast and some evening hors d’oeuvres are served. Marriott Platinum or Titanium Elite members receive complimentary access to the lounge.
Although, this lounge had very odd hours and was completely closed on Saturdays! Here is the lounge schedule:
- Monday – Thursday : 6:30AM to 10PM
- Friday: 6:30AM to 12PM (noon)
- Saturday: closed
- Sunday: 5PM to 10PM
When open, the lounge serves breakfast from 6:30AM until 10AM and a selection of hors d’oeuvres from 5:30PM to 7:30PM. Also, there’s an honor bar from 5:30PM to 10PM.
After my tour of the hotel, I then returned to my room and went to bed. I was afraid that staying at an airport hotel, I would hear the noise of airplanes all night. But, I was pleasantly surprised as the room was fairly quiet and I could barely hear the planes taking off and landing.
Breakfast “to go”
I had an early morning flight the next morning so I wouldn’t be able to eat breakfast in the club lounge. I mentioned this to the front desk clerk and instead, he offered me a small “Breakfast to go” kit which was delivered straight to my suite! Plus, I was impressed that it was delivered to my room within 10 mins of checking in!
The kit contained an orange, yogurt, a granola bar, a blueberry muffin, a nice selection of fresh fruit and also a bottle of orange juice.
I was certainly appreciative to have already have breakfast in my room when I woke up at 5AM the following morning. After eating, I packed my bags, checked out of the hotel and walked straight into the terminal to catch my early morning flight.
Summary
Overall, I had a short but pleasant stay at the at the Montreal Airport Marriott In-Terminal Hotel. It’s location right inside the terminal beside the U.S. departures area is really ideal for early morning flights.
Thanks to my Titanium Marriott Elite status, I was able to get an upgrade & stay in a spacious corner suite. I slept well in the king size bed and I quite enjoyed the “breakfast to go” kit that was delivered to my room.
Although, I did miss out on using many of the hotel’s facilities (like the pool, gym and executive lounge) since they were closed during my visit due to provincial Covid-19 health restrictions. Nonetheless, it was a excellent overnight stay.
I wouldn’t hesitate to return and I can definitely recommend this hotel to others flying through the Montreal airport.
A reminder that if you also want to stay at this hotel for FREE, consider getting the Amex Mariott Bonvoy card.
This card provides automatic Marriott Silver Elite status and a free night certificate worth up to 35,000 Bonvoy points every year for an annual fee of $120. Also, it allows you to earn 5 points per dollar spent at Marriott properties.
