Recently, American Express released a flurry of special new offers for it’s cardholders. Overall, these offers will help members save money on everyday purchases with the Shop Small event and on upcoming hotel stays in Canada.
So, here are the details of these new summer 2021 offers!
Shop Small offer – Spend $10 and earn a $5 credit
The popular Amex Shop Small event is to encourage Amex cardholders to shop at smaller merchants such as local stores, boutiques and restaurants. The promotion runs until August 23, 2021 and offers a $5 statement credit each time you spend $10 or more (in one transaction) at participating Shop Small merchants. Check out the Amex merchant map to see which Shop Small retailers are in your area.
You can earn this credit up to 10 times from 10 different retailers for a total of $50 in statement credits!
Registration is necessary on the Amex website (or under Amex Offers on the Amex Canada website or app) to participate in this promotion. Plus, individually register each of your Amex cards so you can earn the $5 credit multiple times!
This promotion also includes the Scotiabank Gold American Express card. It’s currently offering it’s best ever welcome offer of up to 50,000 points and first year free!

Discover Canada offer for hotel stays in BC, AB, ON & QC – spend $250 and earn a $50 credit
This is great offer for those with an upcoming hotel stay in British Colombia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. The promotion runs until October 31, 2021 and offers a $50 statement credit when you spend $250 or more at hotels in each province. This total is cumulative so you could have multiple hotel stays and still receive the $50 credit upon spending $250.
Each hotel offer is separate for each province which means you could earn the credit up to 4x if you happen to have qualifying hotel stay(s) in each province. This would amount to a total of $200 in statement credits!
Registration is necessary for each province on the Amex website (or under Amex Offers on the Amex Canada website or app) to participate in this promotion. Plus, individually register each of your Amex cards so you can earn the credit multiple times!
This promotion also includes the Scotiabank Gold American Express card. It’s currently offering it’s best ever welcome offer of up to 50,000 points and first year free!
Note that this offer is capped for the first 25,000 cardholders who register so don’t delay in registering!

Amex offer for Marriott hotel stays – spend $200 and earn a $50 credit
Another great offer for those traveling this summer and plan on staying at a Marriott hotel. The promotion runs until October 31, 2021 and offers a $50 statement credit when you spend $200 or more at participating Marriott Bonvoy™ properties in Canada. This total is cumulative so you could have multiple Marriott hotel stays and still receive the $50 credit upon spending $200.
There’s also an offer for those with ultra premium Amex cards (such as the Amex Platinum card) which offers a $100 statement credit when you spend $350 or more at participating Marriott Bonvoy properties in Canada.
Plus, this Marriott promotion also stacks with the previous Discover Canada hotel offer! So, if you stay at a Marriott hotel in BC, Alberta, Ontario or Quebec this summer and charge $250 to your registered Amex card you could earn 2x $50 statement credits for a total discount of $100!!! This amounts to an incredible 40% savings on your hotel stay(s)!
Registration is necessary on the Amex website (or under Amex Offers on the Amex Canada website or app) to participate in this promotion. Plus, individually register each of your Amex cards so you can earn the credit multiple times!

Marriott Bonvoy Amex card – 5x points at restaurants, grocery stores and food delivery
This Amex offer is targeted for those with the Marriott Bonvoy™ American Express® card. Until September 23, 2021, eligible cardholders can earn 5x Bonvoy points for every $1 spent at restaurants, fast food, bars, stand-alone grocery stores and food delivery services. This is a much better earning rate than the regular 2 points per dollar spent.

That’s enough points for a multiple free night at the TownePlace Suites Hotel in Petawawa, Ontario which costs 5,000 points on off-peak dates. Check out my updated review of the TownePlace Suites Petawawa for more details about this hotel.
Note that registration is required (under Amex Offers on the Amex Canada website or app) to participate in this promotion.
